Cartouche
Project Description: This is a project that I did on hieroglyphics. In school we learned about how cartouches were made and how they were used. In the cartouche we had to make our name in hieroglyphics which was tricky. Why? We had to draw our names in how it will be pronounced. Since my english name was hard and too long I used my middle name Sujin. We used many materials like metallic pens, markers, and scissors.
While doing I thought how would the egyptians do it if they had color and not only slabs of stone. The designs also did matter because they would make the cartouche feel more alive.
In this project we first made a draft of how our cartouche would look like. Then we moved ti on A2 paper and did everything with pencil. After we made our designs in pencil we outlined everything with sharpie and colored our designs in with different materials. Then we erased our pencil lines and cut the cartouche out.
Project Reflection: I feel that I could have made more improvements to this piece of art. Maybe I could have put more thought to it. This project was hard to me because the designs I wanted it to be elaborate but didn't turn out as I had wanted to. When I looked at the work when I was done I thought that it was the best that I could do, but later looking at it now I feel like I could have put in more ideas then how I did it then.
